A Sky Swinger and a Ferris wheel at Fabbri
Latest novelty at the Italian manufacturer: The Sky Swinger, high-flying chairs. Two copies were delivered in August and September to Dutch and French showmen and a third is on order for Spain.
On the Ferris wheel side, so far, Fabbri was limited to 40-metre models... Today the Italians are building, for Asia, an 80-metre Ferris wheel to be installed on a 30-metre high building. Its total height from the ground comes to 110 metres. Given the specificity of the facility, the structure has been designed to withstand extreme winds. Planned opening: August 2009.
Two news for Zamperla After the success of Disk'O of Motocoaster and Pony Express, real best-sellers, Zamperla bets on two new rides and a new brand. Tween is the name filed by Zamperla to brand its rides destined for children and adolescents. The first of this new category is the Surf's up introduced a few days ago in Orlando. Quite close to the Disk'O and Rockin'Tug, it is distinctive as to the passengers’ standing position. The concept: 20 visitors climb on a giant surfboard, which rotates 360° on a wave effect rail.
The second novelty is the Barnyard whose concept is to sit on the porch of a farmhouse and get caught in a tornado that rotates on its axis. This ride, which yields 600 passenger/hour, is designed for the whole family. It is available in fixed and transportable versions.
Intamin Ride Trade ducks the crisis
To gauge Intamin’s immediate future all eyes are on Australia. Late 2008, the manufacturer will be opening a jet ski-themed Accelerator Megacoaster at Sea World Gold Coast. Other important projects are in the pipeline for 2009 with Pilgrims Plunge at Holiday World (USA), the water ride with the biggest drop in the world—40 metres at 45 degrees. Gröna Lund (Sweden) will receive a record-breaking 35.5-metre high and 250 long. Its name is “Insane”; it is capable of thrilling 800 passengers per hour; and it costs a cool 5 million euros.
A Spinning Coaster is also on the cards in Bakken (Denmark), a new ride where passengers sit in groups of four, facing each other in individual carriages. At 10 metres high and 300 metres long, according to the manufacturer it will be even faster with increased G-force and acceleration. Mirabilandia (Italy), meanwhile, will be receiving the iSpeed, a 1000-metre long LSM launch coaster, as well as a 50-metre Top Hat, several camelbacks and S-Turns, as well as three twisters (Corkscrew, Immelmann and Heartline Roll).
In terms of medium term projects, Intamin is currently working on a hydraulically powered roller coaster, with a top speed of 250 km/h. While their plans for China might well come to fruition, Dubaïland operators forecast a slow-down in business and current projects.
